Digital Makerspace Into

Image
Today I explored the "open source software" tab in the Maker Ed website, and I came across an interactive website called Scratch. This would be a great wedsite to use to further the students in their coding experience and knowledge. There is a small tutorial to help you learn the website, but other than it is completely up to the operator to come up with their stories!  This website has a variety of things that can be done, shown in the video below. This will allow the students to use their imagination and come up with a more specific and unique story while also working on their coding skills!  The ISTE stand I chose for this acivity is:      4d: Create CS and CT learning environments that value and encourage varied viewpoints, student agency, creativity, engagement, joy and fun.      2a: Nurture a confident, competent and positive identity around computing for every student.      3b: Apply effective teaching strategies to ...

ICreate Lab Exploration

5c: Use a variety of instructional approaches to help students frame problems in ways that can be represented as computational steps or algorithms to be performed by a computer. Today the class explored our Icreate Lab on campus. This a lab in the library that has a bunch of different technology to create an endless number of things. We specifically learned each of the machines then dispersed into groups among them to further explore and engage with each piece of technology.  Each piece of technology was used to do different things that could relate to each subject in school. Connecting the standards to my experience as well as connecting them to what I could for my students as a teacher is an important thing that was discussed. And I chose:  Standard 1: Empowered Learner. Students understand the fundamental concepts of technology operations, demonstrate the ability to choose, use and troubleshoot current technologies, and are able to transfer their knowledge to explore emerg...

Drone Coding

Image
1d: Develop resilience and perseverance when approaching CS and CT learning experiences, build comfort with ambiguity and open-ended problems, and see failure as an opportunity to learn and innovate. 2c : choose teaching approaches that help to foster an inclusive computing culture, avoid stereotype threat and equitably engage all students. 3b: Apply effective teaching strategies to support student collaboration around computing, including pair programming, working in varying team roles, equitable workload distribution and project management.  Today I explored droneblocks !  The website has modules you can go through to learn how to take care of, fly, and code these drones correctly.  Some of the things covered in the modules I looked through today were: Safety tips, Terminology,  Coding, and  Some scripted codes. Some of the safety tips that were staed are very important when using these drone: Always pre-check drones before flying, Keep plenty of flying space...

WeDo Lego Lab

1c:   Leverage CT and CS experts, resources and professional learning networks to continuously improve practice integrating CT across content areas. 4d:  Create CS and CT learning environments that value and encourage varied viewpoints, student agency, creativity, engagement, joy and fun. 5a : Evaluate and use CS and CT curricula, resources and tools that account for learner variability to meet the needs of all students. 5b:  Empower students to select personally meaningful computational projects. 5c: Use a variety of instructional approaches to help students frame problems in ways that can be represented as computational steps or algorithms to be performed by a computer. Exploring the Wedsites Today I explored the website education.lego.com to learn about making legos and creating codes for the robots. My experience with the webisites seemed overwhelming at first, but they are actually very straight forward and easy to understand. Looking through these and reading about ...
